H2 opened their first club in 2010 in Soho, it was very popular among cyclists, but until recently, it was a well-kept secret. The secret’s expanded into Victoria, right by Cardinal Place. It boasts a huge bike park, service, gym, spinning studio and spacious changing rooms.
I tried their lunchtime Rogue Ride. Rogue Ride is a 45 minute medley of hill climbs and sprints. It’s not a competitive class, but your bike is still connected to the main screen to monitor your effort levels – similar to Digme Fitness and One 10’s Paceline. The bikes have both dials and gears to make sure you can work your wattage to the max.
Yoga was an open-level flow taught by the lovely Colette on the gym floor. She was very welcoming and offered options for beginners and the more experienced throughout the class. Because it’s done on the gym floor and not in a yoga studio, it’s very airy and might even get a bit chilly during your shavasana.
HIIT was a short 30 min circuit workout on the gym floor – think 5 minute AMRAPs and Tabata circuits. Perfect length for a lunchtime quickie but it could be longer in the mornings and evenings – I did it in the morning and wished it was 45 minutes as it felt like it was over too quickly – I’d just warmed up!
All in all a good studio, the only inconvenience being the lack of microphones for instructors for cycling – I couldn’t hear the instructor half the time. They also do circuit/TRX classes that I’m looking forward to trying and reviewing at some point.
A few tips:
Remember to collect your membership card when you arrive – otherwise you’ll find yourself locked out of everywhere!
There are about 100 doors to get through before you get to/out of the gym. If anyone saw me on CCTV, I probably looked like a lost ant. Stick to the H2 signs.
