If you’re already familiar with the franchise, Orangetheory Wandsworth is bigger, brighter and has a lot more to give. The studio is spacious and has a sleek lounging area and changing rooms – something most London studios would be envious of.
Upon arrival I was welcomed by the staff and swiftly taken to get my vitals registered and heart rate monitor set up – I’d recommend arriving 30 mins in advance to get set up and inducted for your first time.
The session was divided into a warm up, 500m benchmark on the rower, treadtmill and floor work, finishing with a short cool down. The plan for the session is explained at the beginning and you’ll be taken through the workout shown on the screens. All OTF workouts are different everyday but same around the world, rotating between the treadmill, rower and floor.
Definitely worth trying if you’re looking for a workout that holds you accountable – something more and more gyms are experimenting with by using MyZone heart rate monitor belts – as your workouts are scored by how much time you spend in the essential orange/red heart rate zones. The workout is well rounded – spending time between cardio and strength – and is very scalable for first timers to those more experienced at the gym.
My only bugbear is the equipment – I’m not a fan of the water rower!
